Tooled Leather Western Clutch

Is your cowhide accessory in need of a refresh? The good news is that cowhide leather is one of the most versatile and easiest fabrics to clean.

Follow these simple steps to have your cowhide accessory look like new whether it’s a wallet, bag, clutch or even a floor rug.

1. Clean the spill first
  • If the spill is fresh, quickly dab the affected area with a paper towel or absorbent towel. If the stain is more solid, use a blunt object like a butter knife to scrape the contents off in the same direction of the hide.
2. Remove any dust
  • Take a soft, clean brush and gently brush the hide in the same direction that the fur is remove any dust.
3. Apply a cleaner product
  • Use a specific high quality cowhide cleaner product. This will ensure your hide is preserved and not damaged by harmful chemicals.
4. Clean gently
  • Follow the directions for the cleaner product as different products have different methods of applying and cleaning the hide.
5. Give the hide plenty of time to dry.
  • Allow to completely dry in a well-ventilated area. Don’t use a heater or hairdryer etc to try and speed up the drying process. This may cause damage.

  • Don’t use to much water
    • Water causes the hide to stick or bond, which could ultimately leave the hide dry and stiff.
  • Use only quality, specific cleaners
    • Do not use products that could harm the hide.
  • Don’t use harsh cleaning chemicals
    • This may damage the hide and stitching.
  • Don’t machine wash
    • It will likely ruin the texture of your hide and the colours will likely run.

Follow these guidelines and your cowhide leather accessories will look like new again and will ensure they last for many more years to come.
